Diversified Curriculum

We have put in place a diversified preschool curriculum so as to build up your child's skills in different areas.

Learning About Colors

Learning about colours may sound like something simple. But for kids at a young age, it is difficult for them to remember and identify colours! To help them, we use multiple approaches to engage them - from singing songs, to various art and craft, and to even organizing a little science experiment!

Current Affairs

Learning about Current Affairs - Wild Boars on the Loose! By exposing children to what is happening on the news, children learn more about the society they live in! But how can we make current affairs interesting for young children? Scroll through these photos to see how we teach our children at CM how we should respond should we encounter a Wild Boar on the streets of Singapore!

Preschool Math

Through the combination of the two Montessori materials, children begin to further develop their visual ability to differentiate and compare between the sizes of 3D objects, which is a Montessori method of preparation for the mathematical concept of volume. On top of that, they also exercise their fine motor skills in being precise with their alignment and arrangement of both the pink cubes and brown cuboids!

Phonics

Run to the Rainbow! Learning Phonics at a young age can be tricky.. that is why it is important to engage the different senses of the child to help them remember and learn the letter sounds! From using sandpaper letters to learn the strokes of the letters to singing songs and even playing games, we make learning meaningful and fun for the kids!

Engaging

Our Pre-Nursery children had an exciting activity planned for them as they read the book "We're Going on a Bear Hunt"! Our teachers are constantly making effort in crafting a more interesting and engaging learning experience for our children everyday!!

Why Learn Music in Early Childhood

Mental benefits

Unsurprisingly, learning a music instrument is associated with numerous benefits about the mental development of children. One conclusive study done by the Institute for Music and the Mind at McMaster University in West Hamilton shows that playing the violin tend to improve children’s concentration. When a young child plays an instrument, changes will start taking place in their brain.

Sharpening memory

Violin playing requires muscle and brain memory. This happens as your child needs to remember different positioning to place their fingers as well as reading music.

Increased attention span and focus

This is a result of concentrating intensely on how to play the violin while reading their music scores. The brain has to work harder to process information at a quicker rate
Character Montessori's Proven Way of Education

How does early music education greatly improve brain development?

Learning music is like a full body workout because it works the entire brain. It works three different parts of the brain: the motor, visual, and auditory cortices.

Music helps us to become comfortable with discomfort, and learning is uncomfortable. Music increases our tolerance to power through difficult problems and helps us to solve problems creatively.

Music Director at Character Montessori

Shaun Ng

Violinist Shaun Ng takes great pride and interest in infusing digital effects with his acoustic violin to generate a grander, more resonant range of sounds. Shaun has been classically trained in the violin since he was seven years old, and acquired a Level 4 Diploma in Music Performance from Trinity College London at the age of 18. Shortly after that, he completed his Diploma in Music at the age of 19 and attained the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Music with LASALLE College of the Arts in 2018.

Inspired by his former violin teacher, to teach violin and music to young children, Shaun and two other experience musicians have jointly developed a comprehensive Music Appreciation Program (in 2012) to teach preschooler (age 4-6).

With this unique Music Appreciation program, Shaun has started in 2012 to impart his knowledge of violin and music to the community. Teaching children age 4 to 6 at Character Montessori he equips them with a basic understanding of rhythm and pulse, pitch accuracy and classical & contemporary music compositions.
